The UPLB Housing Office was created through the approval of the University of the Philippines Board of Regents (BOR) during its 1232nd meeting on May 30, 2008. Such approval was renamed the Staff Housing Office (SHO), which was earlier created as a unit under the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs on October 23, 1997 during the 113th meeting of the BOR. Moreover , such approval expanded the original mandate of SHO as follows:

“To manage the University’s housing facilities with efficiency and efficacy…[and] assist the Chancellor in the formulation of UP Los Baños’ [UPLB] policies, rules and regulations on matters concerning the housing units of UPLB, private parties, and affiliated agencies and implement the same.”

With the new mandate, the UHO continued supervision over 287 housing units, consisting of 256 staff and 32 private units, and regulated the housing occupancy of allied agencies currently on UPLB land. On May 5, 2010, Chancellor Luis Rey I. Velasco issued Administrative Order No. 065 Series of 2010, transferring the administrative control and supervision of the Student Housing Division (SHD) from the Office of Student Affairs to the UHO. With this, UHO added to its responsibility the supervision of 10 UPLB dormitories serving 2,137 undergraduate students and 150 graduate students. However, in 2020, the supervision of UPLB’s student housing facilities was turned over to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
